GOOD NEWS! We will be launching our new Select & Collect service on Monday 27th July 2020. Full details below.
1. Customers can order their books by phoning the library on 01639 883831. Phone lines will be open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday + Friday from 9am – 4pm. One of our volunteers will be on hand to find suitable books for you. For the time being, we can only loan out books that we have in the library (inter-library book request service suspended). You can view the catalogue online at www.taibachlibrary.org.uk/catalogue to see what items we hold, however you must phone to double check the items are actually in the library (and not missing) and to book your time slot.
2. You will be given an allocated time slot to come and pick up your books. Please come to the door at the rear of the library, ring the bell and then remain outside the building at a distance of 2m. Our volunteer will open the door and place your books on the brick wall. They will then return inside the building and you can step forward to pick up your items. Books will be loaned out for an extended period of 6 weeks.
3. When you have finished with your books, you can either return to step 1 and order your next lot and return your books at your next allocated time slot, or if you just want to return them please give us a ring and we will give you a time slot for just returning books. Returned books will be quarantined for 72 hours before being returned to the shelves. Our volunteers will be following strict hand washing guidelines at all times.
Further details: We will have a risk assessment in place by the time this new service launches. Our volunteers will have access to this so they know how to operate the library safely. The library shelves and books have all been wiped down prior to re-opening. Hand sanitiser will be provided to volunteers, or they are welcome to use their own. Between handling books volunteers will wash/sanitise their hands. Customer returns will be placed on a dedicated quarantine trolley with a note saying the date/time returned. They will remain there for at least 72 hours before being scanned into the system and returned to the correct place on the shelf. We will not be providing gloves or face masks to our volunteers at this time due to the costs involved, however volunteers are welcome to use their own if they wish, and we will be ensuring volunteers keep a distance of 2m from the other volunteer and members of the public at all times. Volunteers who are displaying any of the symptoms of COVID-19 will be asked to not attend the library, and therefore there may be times when we have to close due to no volunteer cover. We will endeavour to post on our social media channels should this happen. If whilst a volunteer is volunteering at the library and has any of the symptoms come on, they will be asked to leave immediately and follow the Government guidelines on self isolating. Anyone they have volunteered with will also be asked to self isolate. We will keep a record of customer details to allow us to allocate time slots. Should a volunteer become symptomatic we will use this data to inform any customers who may have collected books when this volunteer was present in the library. Data will be kept safely under GDPR regulations for a period of 21 days to allow us to contact customers should the need arise.
