– We couldn’t survive without you!
– To make a difference
– To share skills and interests
– To gain new skills
– To make new friends
– To gain experience
– To develop confidence and communication skills
– To give something back to the community
– To help them complete their Duke of Edinburgh award or Millennium Volunteers scheme
– To gain additional qualifications

What do volunteer librarians typically do?
Our team of volunteers help to support the day to day running of the Library. During your voluntary slot, along with another volunteer librarian, you will spend your time assisting library borrowers with their enquiries, loaning out books, DVD’s and spoken word items, returning books to the correct place on the shelves, helping members of the public use the photocopier, as well as dealing with cash payments at the till and helping keep the Library environment clean and tidy for all.

What training will I receive?
Our volunteers will receive induction training before commencing their voluntary role, to ensure that they know how to deal with all kinds of situations that occur during the day to day running of the Library. You will be shown how to use the Computer software to issue books out to borrowers and how to operate the PC booking/printing system. There will always be someone contactable by telephone during the library’s hours of operation should you require any additional support.

How often will I volunteer?
Volunteer librarians typically volunteer for 2.5 hours per week. This volunteering slot is usually on the same day and time each week. If you are unable to commit to the same slot each week, please still get in touch as we’re always willing to try and accommodate where we can.

Do you offer a taster session so I can see what it’s like?
This is something we can arrange. Please get in touch using the email address at the bottom of these FAQs.

How can I become a volunteer librarian?
If you have some spare time and would like to volunteer as a Librarian, then please fill in a Volunteer Application Form and our Volunteer Co-ordinator will be in touch.

What is a fundraising volunteer?
Fundraising volunteers don’t get involved in the day to day running of the library, instead they help promote the library through distributing leaflets or helping to organise fundraising events. You can volunteer as little or as often as you like with this role.

How can I find out more?
If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to email the Volunteer Co-ordinator on volunteer@taibachlibrary.org.uk.
